Course Overview
The LLM in Legal Theory at LSLPE is a UK Level 7 postgraduate qualification running one year full-time or two years part-time on-campus, online or by distance learning. The programme takes candidates through analytical jurisprudence, natural-law theory, legal positivism, critical legal studies, feminist legal theory and law-and-economics, aligned with the Bar Standards Board, the Solicitors Regulation Authority and International Bar Association guidance on the theoretical foundations of legal practice.
By graduation you will have produced a doctrinal case-note on jurisprudential grounds, written a comparative essay on rival theories of law, argued a moot on a jurisprudential point, drafted a research protocol, and defended a research-informed dissertation on a specialist question in legal theory.

Entry Requirements
- A UK Bachelor's degree (2:2 or above) in law or a cognate discipline, or equivalent international qualification.
- IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) for non-native English speakers.
- Applicants without a Bachelor's degree but with 5+ years of senior professional experience in law are considered on portfolio.
- One academic and one professional reference.
- A 500-word research proposal or practice statement outlining your legal-theory focus.
